PROCESS is about deconstructing the art you see to show the amount of labor, ideas, sketches, thoughts, and directions a project has to go through to be completed.

MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK - Jichael Mackson

I went to see PERSEPOLIS earlier this year, which was a great film and all around amazingly animated. One of my favorite scenes is when, Marjane, the main character, is walking down a street while several men in trench coats are trying to sell her bootleg cassettes of Pop bands:

… Stevie Wonder… Julio Iglesias… Pink Floyd… (and finally) JICHAEL MACKSON.

It tickled me something fierce. But what made it even better was that she passed up the Jichael Mackson tape to buy an Iron Maiden and play air guitar on a tennis racket in her room… awesome.

So without further adieu, here is this weeks Mixtape Sticker, Jichael Mackson.

MIXTAPE OF THE WEEK

So I decided that every week I’m going to post a new mixtape on here to kind of showcase some of the submissions we’ve gotten from our collection.

This weeks mixtape came from Tokyo, Japan courtesy of Kano Vuong, which says “Mixtape” in Katakana. Thanks Kano!

We’re always looking for more mixtapes, so please send them our way if you feel like sharing :) To see more mixtape pics, click here

Hey hey!

So we’re going to have a few stickers out in the Arizona next month for the STICKER PHIENDS show hosted by the illustruous Mad One. Looks like it’s going to be a great show with work from: AKO, 14 Bolt, Robots will Kill, Billi the Kid, and lots more. For more info, click here.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have any spare stickers for them to give away as freebies right now, BUT we did send out some mini 7” x 7” prints of the mixtape graphic that you can customize and frame to your liking :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I got to kill zombies for over four hours on the Wii and my Mom gave me a bag of Starburst jellybeans for Easter. It ruled!

The real art is making art. The real art is being focused on what’s around you. You do it. The work and the making of the art pushes you. It’s not some object that comes from that process that can be put in a crate, shipped to a collector, and put up in a goddamn gallery. That’s not art at all. That’s evidence.

So as some of you may now, PEEL magazine recently released a book on sticker art, which we were featured in for the mixtape sticker. In celebration of the release of the book, PEEL is throwing a launch party at their gallery, Alias, in Indianapolis on Friday, April 4th. The show will, in addition to promoting and showcasing the book, will feature work from some of the artists. Below are some pics of the piece I did for the show.

It was somewhat tricky in the beginning, because I had to re-draw most of the shapes after realizing the file I had brought with me wasn’t compatible with the computers I was using. That sucked. But luckily it didn’t make that much of a difference. I think overall I’m really happy with how the piece turned out. If anything, I may use a different stain next time.

Hope everyone is had an amazing St. Patty’s Day!
